Subject: Great Python Script for Smaller Cr2s

I'm happy as a pig in you know what. Ockham has a python script called CR2 Shortener in Free Stuff (just do a search for "ockham" should work}. Anyway, this is what it does (Within the MOD file, all delta lines and vertex lines will be cut to the desired precision, and unneeded delta lines (all 0) will be eliminated entirely). That's from the ReadMe. I like to save whole figures with textures and morphs and have a Runtime that's reallly gotten out of hand. Tried this script today for the first time and it's AMAZING! I cut one Cr2 from 64 mgs down to 31. That's one of the extremes with a ton of morphs but for smaller ones I've been cutting out at least a mg. It takes a bit to run but I'm loving the fact that I'm going to regain a ton of hard drive space. I test each figure as I do it just to make sure before deleting the original from Runtimes. Also a good idea to copy the original if you want to CD or some kind of backup. I haven't done anything to my originals and won't, of course. Just the characters that I've made that are taking up a ton of space. Also haven't tried it with hair or clothing but will after figures are done.

Sounds interesting.... has anyone else here tried this? I don't know much about computers and am afraid to fiddle with files in the off chance it ruins them.... or my computer, hehe If I could free up hard drive space, I'd try it, but only after I heard from many others that it works and that any computer dummy can use it without breaking something :)

I would go to the Python Forum and ask there. That's where all the python gurus hang out. This basically reduces the size of the text file by eliminating the stuff that has a 0 value. Morphs can be really huge and you only need a part of the file. So this strips out the text that you don't need. I do this manually with morphs that I make myself, but I had never tried it on Cr2s. If your figure doesn't have many morphs, then it won't be very big. Morphs can really up the file size. If you're ever afraid of ruining existing files, back them up. It's a good idea to do that frequently anyway. That way if something is messed up, you have the original. And test, test, test before deleting anything.
