Subject: file tree structure

I have unstalled free stuff which when extracted they do not go into the proper place. Does anybody have a file tree structure on all thyps of poser extention and where they go in the poser tree structure? Such as OBJ usually go in the props folder etc.

OBJ files go in Runtime:Geometries:[subfolder] CR2 files and their corresponding PNG and/or RSR files go in Runtime:Libraries:Character:[subfolder] PP2 files and their corresponding PNG and/or RSR files go in Runtime:Libraries:Props:[subfolder] PZ2 files and their corresponding PNG and/or RSR files go in Runtime:Libraries:Pose:[subfolder] CM2 files and their corresponding PNG and/or RSR files go in Runtime:Libraries:Camera:[subfolder] HR2 files and their corresponding PNG and/or RSR files go in Runtime:Libraries:Hair:[subfolder] FC2 files and their corresponding PNG and/or RSR files go in Runtime:Libraries:Face:[subfolder] LT2 files and their corresponding PNG and/or RSR files go in Runtime:Libraries:Light:[subfolder] HD2 files and their corresponding PNG and/or RSR files go in Runtime:Libraries:Hand:[subfolder] MT5 files and their corresponding PNG files go in Runtime:Libraries:Materials:[subfolder] (Poser 5/6 only) A word of warning: moving those files to their "proper" locations will probably mess with the CR2/PP2 files. You'll have to fix the object references. Search for "figureResFile..." in a CR2 and enter the correct path to the .OBJ file. There are two lines per CR2 that must be fixed. You can do it in a simple text editor. An easier tool is CR2Builder by kim99 (search for CR2Builder in Google and the link will turn up). A prop or hair piece either has external geometry ( objFileGeom ....) that should be fixed just like a CR2, or embedded geometry (geomCustom...) which does not have to be changed. Hope this helps, Steven.

I am sure this will help alot thank you so much. I have things that would seem to be props in figures and poses in props. My tree structure is all messed up. One other question, it appears you know what you are talking about. What about JPG> they look like texture files but I am not sure. Usually in a zipped file there are a few of these. And at last how can you change the material of an outfit specially if it is dynamic. I noticed that in the material folder there are Tartans which is what I am after but can not change this one gown. Thank you s o much again,

JPG files are usually textures, sometimes they are demo renders of the items. And freebies sometimes come with texture templates, they look like meshes/grids. Textures should go in :Runtime:textures:[subfolder].

Applying an existing material to a prop or a figure in Poser 5/6:

  • switch to the Material room
  • select the object that needs to be changed, using the dropdown on the upper side of the Material window;
  • select the material that should be changed using the second dropdown on the upper side of the Material window;
  • then double-click the material you want on the Material library.

Hope this helps,

Steven.

By the way, if you can tell me where you got the freestuff that is giving you so much trouble, I'll be happy to "repack" them so that they extract to the right places.
