Subject: Question from a true newbie

Mizey ( ) posted Fri, 07 October 2005 at 9:06 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 2:50 PM

I apologize in advance for the lameness of this question, I tried to find the answer on my own and couldn't. I am very new to graphic design - I just started learning Poser 6 , I love all the downloads available for characters and clothing but everything I like seems to be for the V3 Model and I don't have her ! Nor can I find a downloadable figure for her. The only figure models I currently have are the ones that came with Poser 6 . Is there a way for me to get the V3 model ? Will it work with Poser 6 ? Are clothing and hair designs made for V3 compatible with the figures in Poser 6 ? Thanks in advance for your advice, I could really use the help.

You can get the vicky 3 base figure free from here. You could also grab the male figure Mike 3 base as well.

http://www.daz3d.com

if you want the extra morphs you have to buy them seperately.

The figure will work with poser 6 but the clothes for the figures that come with poser are different and won't work with the Daz figures.

Clothes made for one figure generally wont work with another, so jessis clothes wont work with v3 and v3s clothes wont work with jessi etc etc. There is a program available called wardrobe wizard that can convert clothes to other figures but it might be a bit expensive for you to buy now.

Thanks much for your reply ! Just a follow -up question - you said the clothes that come with Poser 6 won't work on the Daz figures. ... But I can buy the downloads for clothes and props specifically for them and those WILL work within the Poser 6 library ? So if I load V3 as a Model in Poser6 from my Library and then add clothing to her from a download in my library of clothes made specifically for her, it will work ? Sorry to be obtuse, I'm just amazed at all there is to learn ! =)

Hi Mizey -

Clothing is generally created for a specific figure. So clothing that is created for V3 cannot be used without modifications on the figures included with Poser 6 (Jessi, for example).

There is a fairly new utility called Wardrobe Wizard that can adjust clothing created for one figure so that it works with another figure. I have not used this myself, but it has gotten a lot of good press around here. Check it out at www.philc.net. (It is not free.)

Hair is a little more flexible. Often, you can simply scale & reposition the hair model in Poser and get good results. You would use the X Y & Z scale and translate dials attached to the hair prop. Hair will look best if it designed for the figure you are attaching it to, but is much easier to "fudge" onto other figures than clothing. (Note that I'm talking here about hair props & figures you add to your scene - not the dynamic hair generated in Poser's hair room.)

Definitely get the free V3 and M3 models from DAZ, but if you don't also buy the morphs, you'll have to be careful when downloading characters sets for V3. Some of these require the DAZ morphs and some don't.

Good luck and have fun! And don't worry about asking lame questions - everybody was a newbie at some point. Your question is fine - lame questions are more like "Hi whr can I get P6 and all thos peoples for free? thnx bye-bye."

A specific reply to your follow-up question (post 4) - Yes, clothes made for V3 will work on V3 in Poser 6. You might also want to check the free stuff section here at 'rosity (link at the top of this page), and elsewhere (RDNA, DAZ3D, etc) before you go spending all kinds of $$ on extras. ...have fun

And, by the way, there's no need to apologize for asking "newbie" questions, that's part of the reason this forum exists...

Just to add, DAZ have a substantial archive of free items and, last I checked, their Aiko 3 character was still available as a free download. (And if you see issue #69 of the magazine 3D World grab it.) Poser 6 includes the P4 characters, sometimes known as Posette and Dork, and clothes for them. There is also a (large) download from www.contentparadise.com of the P5 figures, free to Poser owners. The Content Paradise site has other good free content. There is a huge amount of free content scattered across the web which will work for these free figures.

Thanks again everybody ! I am now cruising right along with Vicki, Mike and Aiko. =) I feel bad about the horrible contortions I am putting them through as I learn the program...and the cheetah print tights experiment was an exercise in frustration for me . ( and humiliation for Mike ) . Thanks again for all your help - you're a very helpful group !
