Well, to be fair to DAZ, they did do a survey quite a while back on a few things - some things to do with their poser content and some to do with bryce.

Of the 4-5 bryce related things in the survey, I think that better poser figure importing/compatibility for bryce was the number one thing that came up for what people wanted for bryce, and so they've done that, but they did it differently to just the pz3 import thing that Vue has - i.e. DAZ sort of added a figure lab. I haven't really had time yet to work over the DS integration thing in B5.5, but the ability to repose a figure while "inside" bryce seems pretty damn handy if putting a figure or two into your scenes (what quite a few people do with bryce) is your thing.

TB - I hope that it doesn't turn into one of those pissing contests/wars (I think it'd take both sides to do that if it happened, not just one). I hope Vue gets DS import abilities actually.

Len - I think most of the 3d companies try and listen to their user base to some extent - some of the wishlists they can do, some they can't (for a whole variety of reasons - cash flow being a big one). To me, E-on are an unknown quantity - I haven't really had anything to do with them yet. I've seen people in the forums at this site say that they'd like e-on (and curious labs for that matter before it got munched up) to de-buggify their software before unleashing the next version on the public (and they've been saying that for a couple of versions now). I like what e-on are doing with Vue Infinite - looks to me like they are really trying to hunt out the bugs and hopefully they'll continue to do this before they release the next version (Vue Infinity Squared? ;) ).

What TB mentions about the money - I guess thats my fear a bit as well.

dlk30341 - I was playing around with trying to make smooth shadow/no shadow transitions with softshadows in V5i, and the regions of softshadow kept being really speckly until I went to ultra and beyond (i.e. cranking up some of the user render settings to try and make it a smooth transition). I may have been trying to do it the wrong way (but thats what happens without the manual).
