Subject: Particle shader question

Primitive_Dave ( ) posted Thu, 13 October 2005 at 6:42 PM · edited Thu, 21 November 2024 at 11:57 PM

Hey -- I've been playing with the particle shader and I can't quite get it to do what I want. I would like to set up the particle fountain so that the particles appear bright and fade as they age -- like a fire, for example. However, the particle shader seems to only apply to the ENTIRE particle fountain. It cycles through the color range from bright to dark to bright again. This is not what I want. I would like the base of the fire near the emit area to be bright and trail off as the particles travel away from it -- the way you'd think it would. Does anyone know how to achieve this? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

You can use my pLife plugin shader instead. http://www.associatedfx.com/plugins.html The particle shader with the application does not currently function as you would expect. Mike

Thanks Mike! I have just downloaded the plugins, so I haven't had a chance to try them yet, but I appreciate it! Dave

Are you on Mac OSX? If so, you control-click on the application icon and select 'Show Package Contents.' Then just drag the folders into the extensions folder...
