Subject: Grrrrrr Slow Saves

I'm still using 5.01, current scene has taken 3+ hours to save (400 metaballs and one tree). Tons of free RAM, not much else going , and I want to switch this machine off and go home :( Does 5.5 save quicker?

3 hours !?!? Consider yourself lucky you don't get an error message and a shutdown. That's what happens to me after about 30 minutes. 400 metaballs !?!? Have you considered Metaballs Anonymous ?

Yeah, B5.5 does save faster, I have a scene with 1200+ primitives, takes about 30 minutes for a save vs. 45 minutes in my 5.0 `Course, each scene isn't created equal, but that's like what...30% faster, I believe. AS

400 metaballs !?!? Have you considered 400 Meatballs ????

for some free stuff i made
and for almost daily fotos

I've done images with 1200+ meta's in but on a different machine, and this time I'm using an image texture on the metas :( 400 meatballs would make a fat Gog! mebbe I'll go to metaballs anonymous, Ornlu is probably founder member....

400 metaballs? Peanuts! One of my pieces took 12 hours to save......;-)

Ah...an image texture. My scene with 1200+ primitives also used image textures...and at one point, I needed to re-build my entire scene from scratch. (don't ask) No truly huge deal actually, but this time I didn't add in the image textures while I was building, and my scene file would save MUCH faster. (When building the scene AND adding the image textures in as I went along, each subsequent save time took a little longer each save). That was my experience, with that particular scene. Weird. AS

AS: Seems like you follow the same method I use; Create a bit, texture, render, create a bit, texture, render....although I know some guys create the whole thing and then add the mats. Doesn't always work for me....
