I just prefer lightwave more than 3ds max and I couldnt afford maya, I believe that there are plugins for lightwave to import poser figures and scenes. You would be best finding which program that you prefer yourself and then getting a poser plugin for it. Most of the major programs have poser plugins now. Another alternative would be vue 5 infinite, it can import poser figures and animations (I dont know if it does dynamic cloth or hair) but the renderer is fairly good and it is great for making backgrounds and crowd scenes.
