Subject: wild and baseless speculation on new P6 figure

xen ( ) posted Mon, 28 November 2005 at 5:34 AM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 5:05 AM

On contentparadise, in the "passport" sections, a new figure is mentioned. I guess this is the direct competitor to V4 or Vpro. Anyone fancy a guess what new features this might contain? Here is my guess, just from the silhouette on the picture: A separate jaw bone.

Weight-based rigging!

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Mon, 28 November 2005 at 6:42 AM

That'd be nice, if Poser itself had weight-based rigging. I've seen some odd new lines in my P6 CR2 files that suggests something new is going on, joint-wise, but I doubt that e-frontiers could have slipped that feature into P6 without someone blabbing by now.

But what about Poser 7? It's supposed to be out in 2006. 2006 is only a little over a month away. ;-)

Hey, you don't have to upgrade. Some people are still using Poser 4.

aeilkema ( ) posted Mon, 28 November 2005 at 9:23 AM

Again? We just had a huge thread on this subject a week or so ago..... you must have missed it. According to insiders and leaked info, the new figure is going to be UniWonder. UniWonder is the next generation figure. It's a completely unisex figure which can be turned into almost any human form you like. Man, woman, girl, boy, baby, monsters, zombie. You name it. Best thing is that all of this can be done without the need of buying add ons or using inj and such. Just dial the dials and marvel!

Maybe we're all right. It's a Uniwonder figure with a separate jawbone and weight-based rigging. Made of chocolate!

...And it starts out looking just like a Cube. Rumor is that the expected release date is 2006.04.01. ;0)

This figure comes out of the PC at night while you are sleeping -- crawls up onto your pillow -- and whispers things in your ear.

Then it morphs into a glowing worm, crawls inside of your head, and enters the higher reasoning sections of your brain. It turns you into a mindless Poser addict.

After that, your friends & family might give you strange looks from time to time. They'll notice that your nostrils have a tendency to glow.

That's Year.Month.Day format. I abhor the Month,Day,Year format as it is totally stupid, especially for computer sorting. The other, Day.Month.Year is good, but not for computer sorting. If you have to store anything in a date-sorted format, this is the absolute best format, period. Everything is automatically sorted, numerically, by year, then by month in that year, then day in that month. The Windows short date format (in Regional and Language Options) uses '-' instead of '.', but I prefer the European '.' separator.

That makes sense - since being online, even though it has been many years, I still haven't gotten used to this month/date format.... Not too sure if many folk are aware that it can be confusing.

Seriously - us Aussies have put our foot down and ef has come through with a new model just for us. You can safely assume that the new model will be a lifelike model of Sterve Irwin (complete with crocodile) - that on command will morph into Dame Edna Everidge holding a Vegemite sandwich

To me it looks slightly like Apollo Maximus. And considering that it should be a new and innovative character... how about Mrs. Apollo? (can't remember her name) Still I don't think Anton is far enough along with that one. And I'm not sure he would sell it there either... but...

Some Aussie friends of mine once showed me a jar of Vegemite. Skippy brand, I think. This was over a couple of decades ago.

The family had brought a couple of jars of Vegemite with them all of the way from Perth. ((The husband had come to the US to attend college.))

The brown stuff inside of the jar was mostly gone. Pretty well scraped out. I didn't get any. :(

My Aussie friend was in his 40's at the time. It was kind of funny....as he stood waiting in a long university registraion line, a couple of young American college girls kept asking him questions -- just so that they could listen to his accent. My Aussie buddy (mate) had red hair, and he was of a naturally florid complexion to begin with -- but he turned bright red as the two cute teenaged girls teased him and giggled at him. Or so the story was related to me by a mutual acquaintance. I never asked him to verify the story. ;)

But I probably should have asked him to teach me how to speak with an Aussie accent.

No thanks on the Vegemite, though. I'll stick with deli meat & cheese.

Anton says he is not going to make a Mrs. Apollo. I guess he was disappointed in Apollo's sales.

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Mon, 28 November 2005 at 6:01 PM

I'd bet that Mrs. Apollo would greatly outsell Mr. Apollo -- just as V3 outsells M3.

I'd encourage him to try. He'd probably be pleased with the results.

Marketing wise, he might have done himself a favor by producing Mrs. Apollo first. DAZ learned that trick a long time ago.

Speaking for myself -- I'm sort of unlikely to buy a male figure (M2/M3 is enough). But I'd be likely to snatch up a 'Mrs. Apollo'.

randym77 ( ) posted Mon, 28 November 2005 at 6:05 PM

You're the third or fourth person to point that out.

But I guess he thinks that with V3 and M3 being free, there's not much room for original figures. He also said something about not selling as much clothing as he'd hoped, because people are using WW to convert old clothing instead of buying new.

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Mon, 28 November 2005 at 6:15 PM

Well, I haven't seen the threads where others pointed it out, but I'd likely agree with what they had to say.

I knew that Anton would produce a top-quality figure in Apollo. But from the first, I thought that a female figure would have been the way to go out of the gate. I didn't say anything at the time, because every merchant has to do things as they see best for their own business.

I dunno -- it's obvious to anyone looking over the Poser market that female figures & clothing are by far the hot sellers over the others. A new male figure -- no matter HOW excellent he is -- just won't sell the way that an equivalent female figure would, IMHO.

Sorry to hear that Anton might not follow up with 'Venus', or whatever she was going to be called. I, for one, would be happy to push her in the forums, for whatever value that would have.

Says who, and when did they say that and where was it said?

I can't remember. But everyone was talking about it here last summer. July or thereabouts. A month or two after that Poser 7 survey was sent out by CL. Some people were irate that they were coming out with P7 when P6 was still buggy. Some were worried that it meant the program would again be patched, not rewritten from the ground up. And some were sure it meant Poser Rulez, and would kick D|S's butt once and for all. ;-)

I just wish that when you change a dial, the dial is shown as a different color - that would save an enormous amount of time trying to track down settings.

I had an e-mail way back (i can't remember when) from content paradise informing me of a new figure and i will be informed what it is last week, as yet i have no idea what is happening, i have no mail, no clue, and im lost. I hope it works with PoserPhysics and Wardrobe wizard, whatever it is. Ohh and i hope they don't make it like that Rosity figure they released earlier this year!!!!
