After you have imported the 3DS object:
IF the object has the Body parts properly grouped, take it into the Setup Room and create the bone structure (create a bone for each body part) and then use the Group Editor to associate each bone with the correct body part.
Then use the Joint Editor to adjust all of the body's joints, and ............ walla ...
... You'll have a posable figure.
Then, you can export the figure as a Wavefront OBJect and then use UVMapper to create a UV Map(s). Then use your favorite paint program (using the UV Map as a guide) to create the texture map(s).
Back in Poser, use the Material Room to load the texture maps and assign them to the correct body parts.
Needless to say, it is a very complex process and is not recommended for the faint of heart. ;=]
