Thanks Where do you extract 3DS files to in poser6 so you can use the figure as a normal poser figure and add textures etc. Sorry new to poser Rowlando

After you have imported the 3DS object:

IF the object has the Body parts properly grouped, take it into the Setup Room and create the bone structure (create a bone for each body part) and then use the Group Editor to associate each bone with the correct body part.

Then use the Joint Editor to adjust all of the body's joints, and ............ walla ...

... You'll have a posable figure.

Then, you can export the figure as a Wavefront OBJect and then use UVMapper to create a UV Map(s). Then use your favorite paint program (using the UV Map as a guide) to create the texture map(s).

Back in Poser, use the Material Room to load the texture maps and assign them to the correct body parts.

Needless to say, it is a very complex process and is not recommended for the faint of heart. ;=]

Yep not for the faint hearted. I just had some 3DS figures in a zip file which had jpg maps etc. Anyway of opening it up as it looks in the jpg picture, I guess I thought I could just import it all to poser then open it up??? seems its going to be a journey. Thanks Rowlando

You can. More or less. You'll have to attach the textures manually, just use that provided jpg for that. And you CAN put the jpg anywhere, though it's probably easier for you to find if you put it somewhere in the Textures folder (in a subfolder named the same as the prop for instance. Gee I wish I had done that when I started with Poser LOL)

You should be able to just use the Poser import function. You may have to tell Poser where the first .jpg texture is located but after that it should find the rest of them. .3ds isn't Poser's preferred format so you may experience some problems depending on the file. Download a free copy of PoseRay which will import .3ds and allow you to convert to .obj which Poser prefers. PoseRay is also a good fast way to previwe models without firing up Poser.
