Start looking into creating your own brushes and experiment with your layers using different modes and opacity levels. Also good to know your keyboard shortcut keys. Masks also come in handy along with different selection techniques. It's great fun playing around with different style layers with the different blends and make sure to check out the bevel and emboss style (use selections with it). Have fun!
