You can get quite a variety of effects out of p6's toon shaders and it's various display modes. This image is actually a composite of shaders with the toon display mode outline overlayed in photoshop (Use single tone, with a white background and Multiply the layer in photoshop) You will have to do some postwork to get the lines looking good though. Also don't cel shade backgrounds, unless you want a simpsons/family guy look... Traditional animation has hand painted backgrounds. I usually do a realistic render of the background then photoshop it to look painted. The display modes alone can produce interesting results. I really like the smooth toned mode... Unfortunately you need a model designed for those modes (no transmaps) like animedoll or F202.
