Well, exactely how to do it depends on the prop in question. Usually, you'd use planar maps for clothes. Or possibly cylindrical (for stuff like sleeves and (sometimes) skirts. You're doing it sorta right by exporting the obj, but remember that you must point the pp2 to that NEW obj, or Poser won't know you've done something to it. That's probably your problem :o) But... the dynamic clothes in P6 should allready be UVMapped. Is what you want a template? Then just open the obj (probably disguised as a obz) and save the template in UVMapper. Do not change anything, and you will be ale to use the textures from your new template on the existing prop :o)
