"in my example of page times you'll find BBC News, Ebay and Amazon. I think they have slightly higher usage numbers than here"

I agree. They're also all examples of BIG companies with BIG budgets. Which allows them to employ lots of people with lots of experience, buy the latest hardware and software, and have the clout to get stuff upgraded when it doesn't work properly.

'Rosity isn't in that league, so those examples are not fair comparisons. Plus the fact that those sites don't have to maintain a rather large data-base for every individual member (except for some very specific stuff). 'Rosity has decided to let us "mark all read" for each separate forum. Which means a data-base search every time you change forums, so that it knows which threads to display. Not true for the BBC News (can't say for e-bay/Amazon).... And - ever tried watching BBC news videos at peak time (around 9-10 PM UK local time)? 3 secs of video, 10 secs of "downloading", 3 secs of video, 10 secs of... (and I'm on broadband)..

As for the others, I don't know.

My basic feeling is just that 'Rosity is TRYING to do it's best, but can't always hack it.

So when it's slow I sit back and swear under my breath and/or switch to doing something different for a while, but I don't complain about it, 'cos I LIKE the site.

Sorry if I got anyones hackles raised.

Cheers,
Diolma
