Thanks very much for the help and encouragement. After getting my roommate's reaction to the yellow/blue colors, I think I'll shove off more in the direction of the black/green and make it as imposing as possible. Isaac Asimov is one of the greatest SF authors of all time, IMHO. I especially like "Asimov's Mysteries": a collection of some of the best mystery stories ever written. Hmm... maybe I'll try out UVMapper for this one. I've heard so many great things about it; maybe it's time to abandon Wings' included UV mapping engine for a more specialized program.
