With any brushes, if you paint it onto a new document with a transparent background, you can then use the various features to color it the way you want, and add any effects, etc until you get something that looks the way you want, and save it as a psd layer, then copy and paste the layer onto your image and transform and edit it just like an ordinary psd layer.
