They've been doing this for years. It caused a big brouhaha when it was first announced.

I've been opted out since they started doing it. Though they're tricky; sometimes it's "accidentally" reset (yes, even on the same computer) and you have to set your privacy settings again. It's a good idea to check back once in awhile.
