I hear about Mayadoll pretty frequently but have never seen a non-promo render of the figure. Who uses it and for what? I tried to search the galleries but Renderosity searches always crash my browser - no matter which browser I am using. Can you give some URL to actual renders? Or is it an "adult" figure?

I have some MayaDoll renders in my gallery here...go ahead and take a peak. This image is a forum avatar I did for a friend. She's a nice little free figure...and a plus is that she and AnimeDoll can share clothing (cept for neck and head) so that opens up the closet a little bit. =)

Kinda forgot the link to my gallery. MD images are on page 2. Texture in the pic above is one I did myself and is available here in freestuff.

I have used Mayadoll on occasion, too. As realmling says, she can wear AD's clothes. I see her more often in Japanese galleries, though. PS. Weren't you interested in Steffy's grandma textures? Zeta Studios is having a thirty percent off sale this month. Might be your chance!;-)

You don't see as many new free items for her lately but I really like MD.

Re: Mayadoll Renders by Realmling on 1/12/06 18:34 All 3 renders are lovely. However, Realmling's render looks like Nichole Kidman. May I please know the character package and the hair? As I said, I love all 3, however, I am really going for the sulty, 40's look. Thank you so much.

momodot ( ) posted Thu, 12 January 2006 at 8:16 PM

Realmling, thanks. Looks good. 30% off :) I just paid full price for the V2 and V3 grandma textures. I have a thread a bit back showing the V2 version brought over to Dork with my morfman set to oldman. But thanks.

I am a fan of Mayadoll. You can a look at my gallery to see if its helpful. http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?ByArtist=Yes&Artist=GreyPixel

mathman ( ) posted Thu, 12 January 2006 at 9:09 PM

I like MD too, the main problem that I have noticed is that she has a very small mouth with very thin lips.

GreyPixel ( ) posted Thu, 12 January 2006 at 9:14 PM

well I think she was designed so she does look more asian. Her general face structure is quite small in comparison to V3.

Realmling ( ) posted Thu, 12 January 2006 at 9:16 PM

There are some free characters for her on or linked from the Studio Maya site. Any of my MayaDoll renders are with the base figure, no changes other than the occasional pointy ear morph and the woodelf texture of mine that's here in freebies. I always use Riddokun's DOAnimeEye texture packages, and Kozaburo's hairs, either Kyoko hair or LongEvo. (psssttt -- You can always trust me for a few free MD things each year between other projects /wink wink )

I really like the Maya doll, I had entered a pic with her in a contest long time ago, looked in my gallery and forgot to post it there I guess cause it's not there lol. I think I'll be going through my files to find her........could have sworn......must be losing my mind......hmmmm

replicand ( ) posted Thu, 12 January 2006 at 9:45 PM

The cool thing about MD is that the polygons are more concentrated in the bendy areas (elbows, knees) which I have found great for rigging; sorry, no pix.

mathman ( ) posted Thu, 12 January 2006 at 9:50 PM

Another cool thing about MayaDoll is that she is the most realistically Asian-looking character around (apart from Miki, of course).

The nice thing about Maya Doll is she is an excellent figure, free, and has alot of support (also free) Most of which is still available at Studio Maya's site.

I was so excited by Anime Doll I did a ton of animations of her, A few of my favs are still in my gallery.

And don''t forget about Marie, a variation of MD, in the R. Marketplace, (see attached image).

I had download MayaDoll a long time ago and was put off by the pointy chin and the knees. I had been put off by these as marked in red above -though I feel terrible making any criticism of a free figure. I should open up the figures and see if I can get it tuned more to my preferences. It is nice to see some renders. I had been wondering.

pakled ( ) posted Thu, 12 January 2006 at 10:49 PM

I go through spells..Have her in my gallery about 4-5 pics back, I think. The nice thing about her is that there's so much free clothing for her, and most linked from the Studio Maya site. The only quirks I run into is having to 'unlock' the eyes, and the arms pose a bit differently than the other types of figures..but then, considering it's free, what do I have to complain about?..;) (The Pic I last used was 'bodies at rest..at last'..if you feel that motivated to look..;)

Realmling ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 12:02 AM

You can adjust the shape of her face with a few of the built in morphs, and also, slap on some of the free character morphs and play with combinations of those. There are a couple that soften the look of her face a little. Her knees are a little funky, but when you get the scene put together and get her posed, they don't stand out as far as I've noticed in my final renders.

Go look at Handspan's store. There are a couple of beautiful morphs there and the bodies have been improved as well. I have both and like them very much. Hint: Wardrobe Wizard for fitting clothes to her. And the Maria character comes with a bonus Ninja suit and hair.

kobaltkween ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 6:49 PM

she's basically a japanese stylized character, and she came out with free clothes. one thing to remember is that she and anime doll have the same body, and should be able to share body morphs and clothes.

Chuckle... Well, tastes vary IIRC Momodot, you're fond of Sotoko who, to me, cries out Dwarf, with those legs; not that I'd decline to make her acquaintance mind you :-) From the pictures I've seen, I'd have to agree that out of the box, Miki is the standard for realism right now. For me, the oddest thing about Maya Doll is those strange indentations on her inner thighs, not something you inquire about in polite company I suppose.

At any rate, I call this an excuse to drag out all the free indie fems I can recall and slap a quick V2 pose on them.

momodot ( ) posted Sat, 14 January 2006 at 2:47 PM

lmckenzie, thanks for the line up... IIRC.. what does that mean? I tried to look it up. Thanks for the line up. Sorry to say... Kaedeko -ugh. Ayame looks related but better. Where is Ayame? I like Eroko, great body and head could be fixed quick. The fact that the head is based on a mask is interesting. I think that Eroko body is pretty real. Nice proportions and great knees. Those Maya knees are something but the face in your image is great... not that Manga chin. I got Elle LoRes, very cute face... has anyone made morphs? Staci looks like it would be a cool Barbie doll, I have never seen it before. Where's it from? Also where does Wapico come from? I have wanted a free "big head" doll. I have been using DAZ Shazam RR which was a Freebie long ago... it is V2 based but it looks great male too. PHF Lo is interesting, nice face, younger than the body maybe. Have not been able to do anything with it. I know there is a small Sara 1 survival group somewhere but that is also a figure I never see in renders... I got it free a long time ago at the DAZ forum. I thought the figure was going to go some where from the initial interest in it. I definitely like Satoko. Esp. with scaling on the hands and legs. I had wanted a "big leg" toon like HER but instead I think I got a lovely realistic figure. I definitely like the mature short stature woman, age 25 to 35 but only 5 foot to 5 foot 4 inches tall. I have had uneven experience trying to age VickyPT, either I under shoot and get a teen or overshoot and get 45-55 years of age. In the mean time I have combined some HER morphs and gotten A really sweet looking "big leg" toon. Big leg is that style if voluptuous figure with very long legs and haunches with a small but big bosomed top. I think the cartoonist R.Crumb was into that, it is a kind of an American Burlesque "Tijuana Bible" type. Thanks.

ayame, her male counterpart, and wapico doll can all be found at poserclub.jp. you have to be a member to download. there are several threads here about the process, which involves using an online translator. ayame is made by the same artist as kaedeko- zock. i greatly appreciate both figures, but i also think you can see the progression in skills. just as you can lalala to rosy cheeks lina to satoko. i don't think the sara group is that small, and if so, they're extremely prolific. they've released 2 huge packages in a native american theme and a fairy tale theme (i forget the name of the site) and have lots of general freebies, like a sara2 to sara1 morph. it might be nice to see a new trend of lots of unique figures instead of one figure, lots of morphs. technically, polygons can be pushed anywhere, but i haven't seen too many morphs that look as different from their base as the differences among these figures (and HER, britta, the mizohu and yuka heads, the kote head, etc.). or among any of the commercial non-unimesh figures.

This is what I like about Eroko... the face mask. And I like Eszter head prop for V3 which is anamazing head, great expression morphs when expressions are so often poor on a figure. These two are a step in the right direction in my opinion, creating destinctive characters without having to build a full figure from scratch. You could even supply/sell heads seperatly as props for "replace body part" with prop and then have injection poses for the morphs specific to the new head I imagine. Re. the Sara I'll have to look (I love Sara 1 and hate Sera 2) though I tend to want everday wear and stuff that can be used in pinup (jeans, button-up tops). I'll look for the Poserclub threads... I could not figure out the process on my own. Thanks.

Hi. Yeah. The Eroko figure has a head with no face. The face is a morphing mask prop that fits the opening on the head perfectly. The expressions are limited but the face is beautiful. I understand a second face mask for the figure has been released. This is a fetish figure but I love the body shape and the head is great and works nicely with the painted on hair it has on the head and "mask"... I just magnet down the x-scale and y-scale on the head and mask to be more to my liking. It really is a beautiful body I think. Knees are one of the real tests of a figure in my opinion. Eszter is available in the store here. It is a V3 with a morphing head prop... a nice retro 40's beauty look and terrific expressions, especially with the morph expansion package. Polymage has another head like this but I have no money for it. For some reason i think the default head of the Poser 5 Head Room was much better then the Poser 6 Head Room heads. I wish some figures like V2 were available to take that Poser 5 Face Room head. I have the Posette 5 figure from the MP here that is Posette with a .cr2 and new neck that takes that P5 Face Room default head and can go into the Face Room. Cool. But I think V2 or V3 would be cooler. As I have put often here on the forum... I like the low poly figures like V2 RR... yet being able to push them with new heads or the P5 Face Room would certainly be cool. I have resorted to parenting "head only" characters to a figure but I have not found a way to lock a parented item in place but still it is fun.

momodot ( ) posted Sat, 14 January 2006 at 10:45 PM

I wish the Polymage heads went on V3 Reduced Resolution or V2... I've used them this way but the neck needs a little post-work.

mathman ( ) posted Sun, 15 January 2006 at 12:03 AM

momodot, thanks for the reply. I've re-downloaded her, and had a bit of a play. What is the advantage of having a "morphing mask prop", as opposed to the standard face as part of the head ? ....also re "morphing", she has no morph dials, so does this just mean that it is easy to transport the face mask to another program (e.g. zBrush) to morph it ?

momodot ( ) posted Sun, 15 January 2006 at 3:42 AM

I think the advatage is that a number of base faces can be made by the developers and others without anyone having to build a figure and rigging from scratch. I think many more people can build a face then a full figure. The reason I see for interchangeble faces is that morphs and scaling can change a body radically and not a lot of skill is required to work on the body with magnets yet as cobalt dream said, "it might be nice to see a new trend of lots of unique figures instead of one figure, lots of morphs. technically, polygons can be pushed anywhere, but i haven't seen too many morphs that look as different from their base as the differences" and I think this is true on heads... have you ever seen a Michael 2 that doesn't look like Micheal 2? My Eroko face has morphs only for expressions, some better than others but I find the face shape easy to morph with magnets. The eye materials (there seems to be dozens and dozens) are all messed up... I had to remove them and put in V2 eyes.

IIRC = If I recall correctly. Eroko does have a nice figure and her face is more of a real Japanese look than most. She also has one of the best sets of feminine features, an area where retro-fitting Vicki just doesn't compare. The Japanese modelers don't seem to see anatomical correctness as evil. Staci is from http://www.3duniverse.co.za I'd pretty much forgotten I had Elle. I like her face also. Unfortunately, these demo figures seem pretty limited since they're meant to get you to buy the full version, the creators are unlikely to support them and no one else seems to either. All the clothing and textures of the full figure should work I guess but I see no free items for Elle. Staci looks like she has some free clothing. I'll have to see if it works with the lo res version since I think the clothes may be modeled onto her. I generally don't get too into the cuteness figures like House Mouse and I passed Wapico doll by originally but she kept calling to me. I now love her. She has that kind of indefinable Hello Kitty thing that appeals to me. She had a decent little wardrobe and some add-on have been made. Hopefully more things for her will appear. Definitely get to PoserClub it's worth the minor hassle. They even have a "High Teen" version of the PT that might suit your needs. You can look at the threads here on signing up. It wasn't that hard but I visit the Japanese sites a lot. Use "Translate Page" if you have the Google Toolbar or go to AltaVista and use Babblefish to translate the pages. The key is to keep the Japanese language page open in another browser page/tab. Enter your info and do everything else in that window, using the translated one for reference. Translators alter URLs. Some simple links like going to a page may work, but link buttons in particular often don't work. You get errors there, for instance, if you try to download free items from a translated page. I think the full res version of PHF looks the same. I used the smaller one to save memory. H.E.R. looks a bit too odd for me though I'm sure she'd make a good character for certain witchy looks. My bad for not including Sara. Truth is, I haven't installed her. She has such a lot of stuff it would be a project which is a good thing. She's definitely alive. I think the Native American project was about 70MB worth of items. "...R.Crumb...American Burlesque "Tijuana Bible" type..." Yeah, she does kind of evoke the Crumb girls. Something about his drawings always had a kind of seedy ambiance to me which would fit in with 1940s Tijuana. I actually have 3 or 4 tattered vintage "TJ Bibles," one featuring Mae West and another with Little Orphan Annie--definitely not politically correct today. Three additions, Zygote's female, Arduino's Cindy V2, free for Christmas and still available I think at 3dpmr, lastly, an outlaw, withdrawn, condemned, whatever, Lilin. I don't remember what the scandal was, something with Daz and her using V3 maps I think. Hopefully, I won't get banned for showing her. I promise to destroy her immediately.

Stahlratte, what hybrid haven't you made! I think that Face Room default is just beautiful myself. The V3 is "heavy" for my machine though I am trying to work with these heavy figures and for some inexplicable reason the neck is different from V3 Reduced Resolution... but the opportunity for "Judy head" to wear V3 clothes! I love the Judy body, most realistic body ever made aside from Miki but really hard to alter at all. Above is HER made by combining other people's morphs. See those fine big legs? *gustibus non est disputatum* each to their own... I am for legs and not at all for breasts; short legs, long legs, skinny legs, big legs. I don't have a fetish, I just don't care much about chests, but the pretty smile and then the legs just melt me. More than you wanted to know I am sure. It maybe be a cultural background thing, I'm not sure but I think.

Hmmm, yes, she does have a certain dissipated charm that evokes really high quality pharmaceuticals :-) I'm all for legs, fell madly in love with a pair once though my *gustibus* may be slightly less all encompassing. You should try your hand at something Crumbesque. The new Sage figure would make a good Mr. Natural. Nothing like nostalgia.

The Ansiotropica was here but no longer. You might email them and ask about it. The site has changed entirely from what I vaguely remember. Picture out front looks like she's a cutie though. It is very nice but not a lightweight at 3.6 MB. The transmap thing works in some situations but of course it's not 3D. I migtht try "baking" the texture, lighting etc. by rendering it first and saving the image, then using that to put on the plane.

No, Ansiotropica is the name of the plant. The Betty/Bettie is by Morpheus who has several Betty related items. She's one of those rare non-Daz inj morphs--invaluable since I only have the base V3. Actually, the Bettie in the picture on the wall,I think a Poser 3 figure, has one of the more recognizable "celeb" morphs I've seen, along with the great P4 Deanna Troi and John Malis' Druuna character. Yes, the Syandy character looks nice, though at present I can only use the texture.
