I think the Vue Infinite manual does a great job of explaining the effects of the various nodes - complete with pictures of many of the noises. I think where some beginners are getting stuck is that they don't fully comprehend the basic workings of the function editor and they don't posses the basic math understanding required to use it properly. I like the jc's idea of building a matrix with examples of the major inputs/functions/outputs or perhaps we could build such a hierarchy in the backroom to make it easier to find appropriate function combinations.
