I would guess that many map makers using photo samples simply align the outside diameter of the eyewhite sample to the template and let the iris and pupil just fall where they may. Because the three areas are concentric on the V3 template, they still generally look ok even if they cross over the individual material zones, i.e. the iris portion on the map may be larger or smaller than the actual iris material zone on the template and still look "normal".
