Have you just done an Import --> Background image? What you may want to experiment with is loading the one sided square prop and applying the background image to it, then scaling it up to the size needed. Then I'd say texture the ground plane to blend into the background image, or turn off the ground plane and see how things look from there. Someone will hopefully come along with a better answer, but that would be my first idea to try.
