I think the main detail to work out would be the conditions under which an item would be activated--maybe the registered download site is down for 30 days or more and they are unable to contact the owner... In the software business they have something called sourcecode escrow. If the company you bought the program from goes out of business, you can get the sourcecode from the escrow agent. It's not the same thing but the general concept of a 3rd party is similar perhaps. So, if you go to Poser Paradise with 72 virgin Vickies, your freebie would live on. Perhaps there would even be a little left from the download fees to feed the hamster :-)
