Subject: Bit stuck...Primitive props with only a preview material.

Jovial ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 2:45 AM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 1:48 AM

Hi,

Is there an easy way to make a primitive poser prop (e.g. a flat square or a cone) have another material surface and not just the "preview" material surface that I see in the Materials room?

My problem is that my latest scene is now too complex for P6 and I have to export it for rendering, but I have a couple of simple props that are merging their material definitions on export. Is there any way to add a new material surface in Poser or do I have to use something like Wings3d to create a new prop.

Thanks for any help or advice.
Jovial.

Just put whatever texture you want on as the "preview" material. It doesn't mean it's preview only, just that it's the generic name for it :o) If you want other materials (or want to give it another name) open the Grouping tool, select the polygons you want to rename and hit the Assign Texture (or whatever haven't got Poser opened right now) - then exit grouping tool again, save the new prop to the palette and you're all set :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

To add a differently-named texture/material group in P6, you can use the grouping tool.

Select the prop, activate the grouping tool (the "point" with a dotted box around it, above the preview screen).

In the pop-up screen, hit "new group" (and give a name), then "add all" (in the "modify selection" section), finally "assign material" (in the "geometry functions" section) and give it a name (it can be the same as the name you assigned to the group or different. But this is the one that will appear in the mat room).

Close the grouping tool.
Open up the mat room, and you should find that you now have both a Preview and a (the name you gave it) available....:-))

Cheers
Diolma

Hope that helps.
If you need screenshots to clarify, just ask. I can't reply til tomorrow... (someone else might though..)
Edited to clarify a point any tidy up some typos..
