If you can afford it, go for an AMD64 x2 4400 or 4800. They have a larger L2 cache (1 MB per core) than the 4200 and 4600 (512 KB per core), and cache size seems to be quite important to rendering. I built an Athlon64x2 4400 system just two months ago, for about 2100 Euros. My only mistake was the graphics card. While the nVidia 7800GTX is a great gamer card, its OpenGL performance is not very good. I'm seriously thinking of getting myself a 3DLabs Wildcat Realizm 100 or 200 for this machine. But it's quite expensive (around 700 Euros). Recommendations: Athlon64x2 4400. Asus/MSI mainboard with nForce4 chipset. SLI is not needed. 2 GB/4GB of RAM, using 1 GB modules (you'll love 4GB when you upgrade to 64bit, and the good people at e-on told me that Vue 6 will have 64bit support). Kingston HyperX is very good. 3DLabs Wildcat Realizm 100/200 PCI Express
