I've been working on car paint shaders again (for thos who dont know) and I am re-working the shader from scratch, so I thought I would start a new thread (also, the old thread had a HUGE image of a tyre in it, that stretched the forum to such lengths that I couldnt see the whole thing, even at 1600x1200!) This here is the new shader. if you look closely, you will see that there are now "flecks" in the paint, a request of some other members. Once I have worked out some problems with the reflection washout, I will show you the new node-work!

Very nice! I think the white is heating up nicely, but I'm not sure I understand the yellow hue in the shadow? I also think the flecks could stand to be a bit larger? Another nice render! Did you get my second IM?

The attached file is a Pz3 scene that I use to render my cars in. it DOES NOT include the car LOL. Here is another render of the same thing, but with a dark blue color.

Im not sure about upping he spec size, the idea is realism, and those fleck and DAMN small.

Ill do a CLOSE up so you can see em better.

Another quality shade templargfx, I like that blue! I'd definately work on my .JPG compression a bit though. your past few posts have been a bit banded. Maybe try a smaller pick, but definately up the percentage! Could we even get a simple car in the scen, just something to see the nodes attached to?

templargfx ( ) posted Fri, 03 February 2006 at 1:26 AM

The problem with that is that you can re-distribute the cars without the creators permission (99% of the time).

Looks spectacular over all the blue version. Are you going to post the settings like the other thread? :)

here is the nodework for what you see above. simpler to seup, but more complicated, and therefore it takes longer to render :(

cars were better :P now just get aiko in front of the car, in a bikini :)

Angelouscuitry ( ) posted Fri, 03 February 2006 at 11:05 AM

But where the cars are freely available to me from there, now(As is,) I see no reason you can't pass along the good fortune? I just translated the page from Japanese. It doesn't read well, but all the words translated. I'm pretty sure he just doesn't want you to make money off them, without his knowing?

nakamuram ( ) posted Fri, 03 February 2006 at 12:42 PM

Interesting, you're doing your reflection through the alternate diffuse... Can you put something next to the car, so we can see how it reflects?

Awesome work on the paint! But why does mine look like it has a skin disease? (...see highlighted areas...) I've tried bumping up the quality on the reflect node, fiddling with the min. shading rate,..... Anyone have a clue???

templargfx ( ) posted Sat, 04 February 2006 at 3:56 PM

this is because poser's ray-tracer sucks ass (most of the time) the way to fix these little "spots" of no reflection on your car is to play with the crease angle, and smoothing options.

I decided to try rendering the cars into a photo. someone asked me to in the last thread, well I finally did it!

this image is from my gallery. feel free to go comment on it ( :P )

I think it came out very well! This uses the background image you see as the IBL image AND the reflection background (plugged into a sphere map) I didnt do any editing of the images at all to use as the IBL and the reflection background. so I think I was lucky LOL

Just fiddling with Templargfx's set-up and I came up with this. By adding a second 'simple color' node and making a few minor changes you can get this awesome fade effect!

templargfx, That's really cool! Plus, I like the fact that all you have to do to change the paint color is to adjust the "simple color", and still keep the "flake" effect.

Hiya,

Apologies, but I have just found this post regarding car paint materials.....very neat indeed.

I was just wondering if you still have the PZ3 Scene file? And if so, could you pls repost as the link is very dead.

Or, PM me. Thx in advance.

Cheers
