Hi there, I've been coming to terms with creating poser figures and built this beatie. I've got all the phi/joint rotation stuff sorted. I've used uvmapper on the model but it still won't take a texture.Am I not doing something basic, is there a correct sequence? E.g. Model, UVmap, Phi build and joint parameters - that's the sequence I've used but still no texture. Anyone who knows my work will know that I do love my textures. Help!!!

It looks like you did everything right. Did you save the model and map out of UVMapper? Try deleting the geometries RSR and try again. Bloodsong will probably be along real quick with help.

I forgot to say, good looking character.

heyas; yes, that's a good sequence. if you did happen to uvmap after the phi/jps, that's okay, too. you just have to re-save the obj after you remap it, and delete the rsr, as wyrwulf said... oh, say.... you didn't happen to use the grouping tool on this, did you? or build it by replacing body parts with props?? if you used the grouping tool, you have to take the geomcustom(s) out of the cr2 and make them point back to the obj file, to get them to read updated uvs. (if you did the uvs first, then used the grouper, you should be okay). not to insult your intelligence, but i gotta ask the "d'oh!" questions: when you applied the texture, did you check the 'texture changes apply to everything' box or did you only texture the useless preview material? after you applied the texture to the whole figure, did you render and/or turn on poser's texture preview mode to see it? did you put a reflection map on it? (that usually overpowers the actual texture.) is the base colour light enough to see the texture through it? oh, and... you DID re-save the obj after giving it new uvs in uvmapper, right?

It's a never ending adventure! What does the RSR do? Just when you think you've got a handle on it....

In the texture box all I get is the useless preview material. I built the thing in Max, its not grouped, all separate bits. I did save it after the UVmapping. Any idea why I'm only getting the preview material?

bloodsong ( ) posted Fri, 23 March 2001 at 6:22 PM

heyas; the rsr in the geometries folder is the obj file information pre-digested for poser to read. if you delete that, poser will rebuild it from the obj file. (not to be confused with the rsr's in the libraries directories, which are thumbnails.) okay, you made it in max... and you didn't assign any materials when you uvmapped it. so there's no materials, so poser assigns it 'preview' by default. try going into uvmapper and giving it a material or two. like 'skin,' 'eyes,' 'claws,' whatever. that might help.

wyrwulf ( ) posted Fri, 23 March 2001 at 6:24 PM

The RSR in the geometries is a binary version of the OBJ that Poser uses instead of the OBJ. Deleting the RSR forces Poser to build a new one. Pro Pack doesn't use geometry RSRs. Did you apply materials it UVMapper? Every part would be a "group" in UVMapper and Poser.

I got rid of the RSR and it took a texture. I'll have a look a assigning materials in UVmapper, I've not done that before. Thanks for your help. Back to Photoshop now.
