Subject: Need a street sign or billboard

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 10 February 2006 at 8:50 AM ยท edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 9:28 AM

Got such a great response and so much help with the cross hoping I can get help with this. I may already have a billboard or if there is one for sale that I can get. Something on the lines of Sin City type. And a street sign that I can use both signs in an angle that will allow you to read them one on top of the other. In other words a name on top and a title on the bottom. Can't pay but you will get credit for it if it's used. Thanks again, Marque

No, I'm not getting paid for this either. 8^) Marque

I haven't seen Sin City.. so I'm not quite sure what you're looking for.. but a billboard should be easy to make... if you give me a pic...

Will this do for a street sign?

If you want it, I have attached the text for the street saign above. Copy the text into a text editor and save it as "Street Sign.cr2", to a character folder.

Here is a texture map template that can be used for Sign-A or Sign-B. P.S. Sorry for the wide post.

Street signs are not hard to build at all... Just a cylinder, two squares and two textures. It's a good project for a beginner learn at.

You can "download" it from the link in post #5.

Just copy the text from the link into a text editor, and save it as "Street Sign.cr2" to a character folder. That's to say save it to:

[path to Poser folder]RuntimeLibrariescharacterSomeFolderStreet Sign.cr2

Or if you want to IM me with your email address I'll post it to you in a zip file.

"Can't get the street sign to load what am I doing wrong? Marque" Use a file management utility (eg Windows Explorer) to brows to the place where you saved "Street Sign.cr2". Make sure it has a ".cr2" file extension. eg NOT: Street Sign.txt and NOT: Street Sign.cr2.txt

Did that I get a sign post but no sign. Guess I'm needing more coffee. Thanks, Marque

Not sure what you're saying... are you saying that your primitive squares did not appear? For the actual sign lettering... you have to create a picture and paste it into the Poser creation. Bill

This is what you should see when you load the "Street Sign.cr2", see above. I haven't posted any textutes as I assume you'll want to use your own street names. If don't see the sign as above, IM me an email adress and I'll send you the file in a zip, along with some textures. Perhaps there is some problem with your browser or text editor that is stoping the file from installing correctly, installing from a zip may fix this. Has anyone else managed the install this, or had problems installing? If you see the sign as above, and only need textures, let me know what street names you want and I'll make them for you.

My street sign was a cr2 (figure), but it's quite easy to make a simple one one as a pp2 (prop), as billisfree said. Try this, from the Edit menu Genral Preferences set the Display Units to "Poser Native Units", then follow these steps: In Poser, load a cylinder (in P5 you'll find it in the Props > Primitives pallet). Scale it to 20%, yScale it to 5200%. Load a Square prop. From the "Window" menu select "Joint Editor", set the first "Center Point" paramiter to -0.050, close the Joint Editor. xTran the square to 0.050, yTran the square to 0.930, xScale the square to 300%, yScale it to 60%. Save the square back to the pallet as "X" (so as not to overwrite the original). yRotate the square 90. Load "X", yTran it to 0.820. From the Object menu, select "Change Parent", use "cyl_1" as the parent, click OK. Now select "square_1", again set the parent to "cyl_1". Sazve a pz3, just to be on the safe side, so you don't loose your work. Now click the "+" in the Props pallet, the "Set Name" dialogue should pop up, click the "Select Subset" button and put an "x" next to these elements: cyl_1 square_1 square_2 Click OK, set a name for the prop, eg "StreetSign", and click OK to save. Open a new document, load "StreetSign" and make sure it's ok, if so you can delete the pz3 you saved. Now all you need to do is make some textures in a paint program to use on the signs.
