The Electronic Frontier Foundation said the latest version of Google Desktop posed a risk to privacy. Its Google Desktop who is the culprit. Don't install it if you want to be sure, otherwise pay real good attention to the configuration of the program.

Watch out then. Microsoft are bringing a desktop search program like googles one. @erosiaart thanks for the heads up on this, my wife was thinking of installing that one from google today so now i have proof its not a good idea :)

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Privacy, shmivacy,...........give me 3 hours and a little pertinent seemingly harmless data about yourself,........I(or anyone else) could find out just about everything about you. Privacy is a fallacy.

Well, im alright, i always keep my system with minimum stuff installed or running. :) Ive also made a habit of uninstalling or turning off several unnecessary windows services as well, such as MSN(the very first thing that goes ), indexing etc.

There is no such thing a privacy. All one can hope for is anonymity based on the number of users within your electronic or physical sphere of presence. I was both amazed and disturbed that you could see my house on Google Maps. My backyard, even the play set I assembled for my kids was in there. a cold shiver runs down my spine Some day we'll have realtime video of overhead satelite which you could view from your cell phone or iPod. There was a case of a Woman who exposed her philandering husband by accessing their car's OnStar data. She discovered her husband frequented an area of town he had no reason to be in.
