Subject: cant find Lo-res Victoria

logansfury ( ) posted Sun, 12 February 2006 at 9:15 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 3:20 PM

According to the notes for the Jim Burton char Supermodel Lori: This version requires Lo-res Victoria (free at www.daz.com) and Objaction Mover to extract. Been to daz, went thru the free stuff, the Vic 1 section, all of it, cannot find this free item to save my life. Can anyone help with a link? Do I need to contact DAZ to ask for this?

That was free for a while but seems to have been discontinued sometime back.

The lo-res victoria figure was free at daz some time in the past, but it couldnt hurt to ask them for a copy. They should just make it permanently free anyway, they couldnt sell it now.

Im sure they dont allow redis. If it was discontinued, theres obviously no legit links so ill shoot em an email. Thanks guys!

unfortunately, they do sell it now. it's now vickie 2 lo res - v1lr with morphs.

logansfury ( ) posted Mon, 13 February 2006 at 12:12 AM

They took a free Lo-Res fig, bloated it with morphs, then turned it back into a retail item? For craps sake......

yungturk39 ( ) posted Mon, 13 February 2006 at 6:31 AM

She also comes with Mimic...if you were planning on buying Mimic anyway, that is. ;) Probably not the cheapest way to get her!

They could still make the older one with less morphs for free...

logansfury ( ) posted Mon, 13 February 2006 at 8:40 AM

Well I emailed thier "general contact" box and asked for the model before Miss Nancy posted here. If im lucky they will get it shuffled to the right person that will make the call that its different and less-featured enough from the current retail version and send me a copy from the DAZ archives. Based on its use as a reference char for other freebies still available they may have mercy on me :)

Well, being as they have already given it away free before (including putting it on several magazine CDs), they just may give you a copy. Personally I agree with Xantor, tht they should jsut make it a permanent freebie. Maybe add it to the freebie archive.

Best person to contact at Daz is Vicky (no pun intended..lol) in their support area..she will actually answer your email :0)

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Mon, 13 February 2006 at 10:04 AM

Since it's the .obj file which is the usual keyfile, adding the morphs should have made no difference. Unfortunately, DAZ are likely to have changed the copyright date in the .obj file, and that will make the current version useless for decoding. Similar things happen from time to time when DAZ upgrades V3. The current "SAE" version has a different file to the original or the "sr1" version, but the only change is the copyright date.

I think they also renamed the .obj file too, so that even though Lo-res v1 and V2 have the same geometry, the obj files for each have different names.

ah..I use her quite frequently (in fact, I'm experimenting on morphs with her lately), I got mine off of a Magazine, as stated previously. It was one of those frequently-offered models, but nowadays, they offer V3 instead. Wonder if Wardrobe Wizard could change the parameters to a different dimension for you..you could ask PhilC about that, I s'pose..

Actually, SAE is very different than SR1. It has several former injected Morphs built in to better support Mimic (Expression Morphs, I believe is what they were called). They did it when they started offering her Free (so you could use her in Mimic without buying the Head Morphs.) This caused some issue with some characters which wanted the Expression Morphs injected to work. I think they even patched her to resolve this.

Daz Studio uses lo-res vicky, and Daz Studio is free. I exported her out..but she was all shiney and stuff..lol

xantor ( ) posted Mon, 13 February 2006 at 5:55 PM

The daz studio lo-res vicky is the lo-res v3.

radstorm ( ) posted Mon, 13 February 2006 at 7:20 PM

yeah..you are right..I double checked that..my bad..faces firing squad..I would like a blindfold please..lol

logansfury ( ) posted Wed, 15 February 2006 at 2:32 PM

um.......ok........... Hi Logan, You might want to check your documentation, or check with Jim Burton on exactly which character is required. I wasn't able to find a "Victoria Low Res" but I did find a Victoria 2.0 Reduced Resolution Figure. If that is the one that is needed for that pack, it is still available in the Store. Vicky Tolonen Technical Support 1-800-267-5170 ext 110 Mon-Fri 9AM to 5PM MST They dont even know of thier own discontinued products at DAZ I guess? They thought I was asking for a current retail item for free? Craps sake........ sigh, time to dig thru the old cds and try to see if this is anything I dl'd back in the day - its scary how many freebies I archive and completely forget. Jeeez anyone gotta pith helmet? This could take hours :/

http://www.daz3d.com/shop.php?op=itemdetails&item=2692 Here is the Lo-res V3. The bad news is she is $39.95...ouch!

logansfury ( ) posted Thu, 16 February 2006 at 7:11 PM

lo res V3, and lo res V2 wont do me any good regardless of price, its an .obj thing, and what I need is the original free V1 lo-res's .obj that Jim built his char around. AntoniaTiger's post reminds me of a recent very similar situation. The Netherworks PosetteV3 hybrid char called on the original V3.obj, which was overwritten evidently by either the SR1 update, or the installation of V3SAE (I keep both V3SR1 an V3SAE side by side in my chars library). When I got around to installing PosetteV3, my .obj was already updated and objaction mover couldnt create the char. My solution was to grab my original V3 install (pre sr1, pre SAE) and install it to a temp dir on my desktop, I then renamed the .obj by adding "-ORIG" to its filename, put that in my real runtime geometries folder, and pointed objaction mover to it. Viola, had my PosetteV3. Netherworks has since released a PosetteV3-Mark1 that uses new SAE or SR1 .obj for V3 so youse newcomers to the char got it easy ;)
