Where was that FREE Vicky3 download again? I downloaded... then forgot the name of that file.

Exactly. Actually, there are several versions of Victoria/Vicky: Vicki 1, also called Millenium Woman (came out in 2000). Vicki 2: the same figure as Vicki 1, loaded with dozens of morphs; Vicki 3, a newer higher polygon figure, different joint setup, different model. The most popular Poser woman to date. Vicki 1/2 Reduced Resolution: same general model using less polygons, useful for animations and background figures. Vicki 3 Reduced Resolution: see Vicki 1/2 Reduced Resolution. Vicki 3 is free at DAZ, but to make her useful you'll have to buy the face and body morph packs. Vicki 2 includes all morphs, but she's not free. Same goes for the reduced resolution Vicki 3: not free.

Thanks for your help. Victoria doesn't seem all that pretty. Is the figure supposed to be modified somehow?

what version of Poser did you purchase? The models that come with Poser have morphs, you can spin those dials to make them as pretty as you wish. ::::: Opera :::::

The free version of Victoria is just the base figure. No textures, no morphs, no hair, no clothes. DAZ wants to sell you those. (You didn't think they were giving away V3 out of the goodness of their hearts, did you? ;-)

If you look in Free Stuff here, you can find some free stuff for Vicky, so you don't have to buy anything right away.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

Well, you'll probably have to buy the Victoria 3 face and body morphs. Most characters for V3, both commercial and free, require those morphs.

as I dubbed here when I was first starting out, she's ubiquitous..;) 3d World Issue #74 has a version of V3 on the CD with it that has a few more bits than the Online version (some morphs to do collars, cuffs, etc). You have to logon to Daz and register her, but it's not too much trouble if you're a member.

in the world of grand opera, we have sundry cases of wenches in places of worship. however, they usually are with-clothes. Beautiful Tosca, in the Cathedral, with her lover (sings Act 1 aria "Oh Mario") :::: Opera :::::

Vicky 3 out of the box is very plain. But if you buy the head and body morph packages you can use the various character addons that are available for her. These addons have body textures and some have morphs to change her look. Here is V3 with the Tuva addon package applied and the Razzor Moffit hair from Daz.

You dont need to buy stuff to have fun with Vicky-3.
In fact there is more free stuff for her than there are for sale items for other meshes. :-)

You did that face with magnets?!!! I'm deeply impressed! She's beautiful! I have a hard enough time trying to get a pretty face done with the morph packages and dials. I can't even imagine how hard it was to do that with magnets!

that's a nice job, stahlratte, and a great answer to the person who started this thread. I admire you going a long way with all freebies and tool knowledge. May I suggest one thing, take it or leave it? Try the exact same render, but have the hair cast shadows. That would make the realism rock. ::::: Opera :::::

VICKY is just short for VICTORIA.

But as SVDL already posted, both names can refer to several meshes, which LOOK similar, but are built completely different.

  1. V-1, the original Millenium Woman.

  2. V-2, same mesh object as V-1, but more morphs added

  3. V-1RR Reduced Resolution version of V-1

  4. V-2RR Reduced Resolution Version of V-2

  5. V2P4 Same mesh as V-2, but can wear P4 woman clothes.

  6. PT-Vicky, V-2 reshaped into a preteen girl.

  7. PS-Vicky, V-2 reshaped into a preschool girl.

  8. V-3, new improved mesh object

  9. V-3RR, Reduced Resolution version of V-3
    10.V3toV2, Same Mesh as V-3, but can wear V-2 clothing.

ALL of these meshes are called "Vicky" or "Victoria", although nowadays most often people refer to V-3 this way, as she is the one that is used most often.

V3 (and V3toV2) are given away free by DAZ, but they only contain basic expression morphs.
They can be "completed" with morph packs, though.
All the other "Vickies" came with their morphs already built in, but are NOT free.

@operaguy: There "ARE" shadows enabled on the hair.
Its just my unbelieveably clever and sophisticated lightset that intentionally PREVENTS the hair from throwing ugly shadows on her face. ;-P

assuming you are serious..... not even a line of AO along the edge of the forehead, or around the neckline? to make the hair look like it is actually part of the "Person"? :: og ::

Where possible I turn off cast shadows on hair. If I want to add a shadow to a specific place I'll smudge one in in PSP. I got sick of having huge pitch black voids behind the neck when using long hair and then cloning in hair to those areas in post work, so now I just automatically turn off "cast shadows" for all hair.

If there was a way to adjust the depth/opacity of the shadows instead of Poser deciding for me, then I'd probably turn the cast shadows back on.

Acadia, I am an animator and individual frame postwork is not an option, so i've put some time into figuring out a lot of shadow stuff. Meanwhile, for you, sounds like that would not be worth the effort, since you can clean up in postwork, or as you say, opt out of the hair casting shadows. ::::: Opera :::::

I often turn "cast shadows" off for hair as well. Real hair doesn't cast the kind of shadows that Poser prop hair does. Poser hair often sticks way out from the head in a way real hair doesn't, and blocks light really solidly, also like real hair does not.

Of course, with dynamic hair, shadows are a must. Doesn't look the same without them.

Personally, Im not THAT much in photorealism because right now it still comes with a big tradeoff in render and tweaking-times. Maybe if I had second machine that would just do the rendering. But I want to DO STUFF in Poser, not sit and watch it render for hours. LOL. So far my typical renders take 20sec AT MOST. Besides, photorealism has to be 100% perfect, because nothing is worse than a broken illusion. If I can spot even the slightest "error", it ruins the whole pic for me, regardless of its other qualities. Photorealism either "Is" or it "Isnt", there is no in between. hats why "Final Fantasy" was a failure, and "Shrek" a big success. So unless Poser becomes so perfect that I can create CONVINCING photorealistic renders without hours of tweaking and render-times I can count in minutes and not hours, thats just not a goal I want to invest time in. And I actually DO like the "semi-realistic" style one gets from the P4 renderer. Its more idealized than a photograph, but yet more detailed than a hand drawn illustration. BTW, in real fashion/beauty/portrait photography people usually spend hours to edit out all those little imperfections like shadows, wrinkles and skin blemishes the "photorealistics" usually rave about. ;-) stahlratte
