I have that problem with Kozaburo hair. I've learned to set up the figure, import the hair, then scoot it around like an arial tribble, until it's positioned correctly. I've noticed that if I change cameras, I lose the ability to position the hair (goes from x,y,z to individual parts). Then, and only then, I conform it to the figure.
Now, in his defense, I know the problem is me, and not Kozaburo's stuff..but if someone can figure out what I'm doing 'wrong' would be helpful..;)
but for the clothes, just make sure that the clothing you're using is actually made for the character. Once you have that down, you can go on to all the add-on programs and utilities that simplify this.
