The actual size in bytes of the JPG/PNG/Whatever file on the harddrive is completely irrelevant, as Poser will always uncompress the file. So a 4096x4096 texture will always use 64 MB no matter if it takes 1kb or 64MB of harddrive space.

The only way to reduce memory usage is by reducing the actual size. A 2048x2048 texture will consume only 1/4th the memory.
