THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: How's your render time...just for fun :)

Just thought it would be interesting to see what other people systems are doing with bryce for fun. Simple, go to the content folder in bryce 5.5 and bring up desmonema.br5(dont know if older versions have this file). Make SURE report render time is checked and just hit render button. My time was 8min 46sec. PCs and Macs I hope. Not to be comparing systems or bragging , just kind of a fun guage of systems since there are so many great artists here. You can put simple specs if ya want. AMD 64 3200+(754) 1gig-o-ram :-).

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

I don't know about your wow64 emulation hurting you. I am completely obssesive about having NOTHING start up with my PC that is not needed. That nothing is running in the background, ever. I also have keep my OS, my virtual memory, and my Bryce program on 3 seperate hard drives. (my girlfriend just shakes her head at me, lol) AS

Yep, just installed new OS (x64), which I did a ton of research on, and knew what I was getting into. Soon as I fired up bryce with my custom bench *.br5 file (which always takes 25sec.) it took 30sec. It shows up as emulated (*32 or something). Now knowing a little more bout bryce, unless you are doing VERY heavy renders, it will only use 50 to 80 cpu time. Again, running an app in background(or that heavy render) will result in 94 to 99 cpu time, a good savings. This post was to see and give people here using this program some insight to rendering faster with or without buying new hardware. As I didnt see posts here about time and bryce rendering, I did forum search for desmonema.br5 which came with my 5.5 that most should have to compare. I also now only have 15 max process run in background. Lots who spent time and money on their rigs should be obsessive bout the system as you could only get more enjoyment out of a faster system(and should I say stable system too:).

wish i knew what things i could shut down from starting up or running in the background, was easy with win 98 but this win xp is confusing..

*I use a small utility called Start Up Cop Pro to kill a lot of things that start up with the computer. The utility used to be offered for free from www.pcmagazine.com, I think they now charge to get access to those files. *Additionaly, I use the "Administrative Tools>Services" to disable any others programs that don't show up with Start Up Cop Pro. I've used these two operations on my Windows 2000, and my familys PC's, which are Win XP home. AS

Attached Link: http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/windows_xp_services.php

CD, here's the list of services, their status and what to do with them. If you don't have Services in Administrative tools, you can access them by going to Start -> Run -> and typing services.msc. If I'm not wrong, Spybot Search&Desstroy shows a list of services with their components. BTW, the first thing to shoot is Messenger service.

I had found a better list with definite settings, but I have no link, only a HTML file saved on my disk. And Windows Messenger is not Messenger service. While WM is vile enough and should be get rid of, it's the service that makes the spamming pop-ups possible. Then, things you dewfinitely don't need and can set them to Disabled: Alerter Clipbook Messenger NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing Network DDE Network DDE DSDM Remote Registry Routing and Remote Access Server Telnet and possibly Terminal Services, as well as Fast User Switching. That's just for security. You can try setting some other services to Manual, if in doubt.
