Many years ago before I purchased my Wacom Intuos II I was given a great little inexpensive drawing tablet by my brother as a gift. It was an 5x5 Acecad Acecat II tablet which went for $100 USD at the time. It did what I needed it to do until I decided to move on to a Wacom.
