I usually start with the basic head shape, then the nose and mouth. Eyes I do last and ears... I have to force myself to remember to do something about ears LOL It's a good idea to have a double viewport open where you can see the front and side of the face at the same time. Sometimes a nose looks perfectly fine from the front, but turns out to be horribly squashed or stretched from the side :o)
