What a fun-sounding project! I think the feel of the CD cover should reflect the feel of the ballads. Are they very modern? Sentimental? Sad? Medieval? What sort of musical instruments are involved? Whatever the case, usually I think that simplicity is best. :) Good luck! And please, if you like, share more information so we can offer more ideas. Stefanie
There was a "challenge" on CD covers...much was fun and perhaps not serious enough for this project. If we can find that it might at least provide some ideas. Agree with Mayliah. Too many are too complicated to make the point..as newspapers would say, not enough "white space" but black and dirty. This is not a ref to colors but to the effect..crowded or just enough to get the ideas across, and something of the music genre to catch the eye. Sorry, that doesn't help much. TomDArt.
Thanks to both of you for answering so quickly. I haven't heard the CD (but I plan to) and I know what kind of music she sings. I hear her sing in our church all the time and she is usually the lead in the local cabarets. I know that covers a wide variety. BUT...I would guess this CD is reflective music since she is a spiritual person. It was her suggestion that the photos be done in her own house, perhaps on a big comfy chair. She thought it casual enough for her to be holding a cup of coffee (promoting the coffee house thing) while lounging. She already has a few glossy publicity shots but wanted something informal looking. Does that help a bit? Like Mayliah suggested, I'll check the mood of the ballads and get back here ASAP if that will spark someone's imagination. Thanks guys!
I kid-proofed my house but they STILL get in!!

Have a look at these ideas... Myself, cynlee and a cople others actually took pictures of a Cd and added the subject in to make it appear like a real CD.Message edited on: 03/01/2006 22:25

Ooh, thats some cool news Jodie. And also very flattering i would think. You should carry that big comfy chair of hers out into the snow....in the middle of nowhere....get sort of a isolated touch to it...although....that would be heavy i guess, lol. Keep us updated, i for one would really like to see how they turn out. #:O)
How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when
isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is
supposed to be fire and brimstone?

Andreas, that's actually a really neat idea for a CD cover..difficult to set-up, maybe, but it would make for a really neat cover: the artist sitting casually in a big over-stuffed chair in the middle of a snow-covered field with trees in the background. She has a steaming cup of coffee in hand and maybe a small table nearby with books...and her musical instrument of choice on a blanket leaning up against the table..ah..I can picture it clearly. A cat in her lap would be the perfect cozy addition, but I doubt a cat would agree to the indignity. :)
Thanks Stefanie. I see you took my idea to a whole new level, lol. #:o)

Good luck with this Jodie. Doug pointed you in a good direction with that link, though I think only cynlee's SGM cover might apply to this one. I'd say you really need to listed to the music first, and check out the song title. But perhaps something dreamy and contemplative would work.

I have a friend who asked me to take a few portraits of her for her CD cover. She is selling CD's to Coffeehouses in the area. She is a singer and most of her songs are ballads. Once she has a photo she likes it will be worked into a cover design by somebody else. I have a few of my own ideas for the "look" for this CD cover but thought I'd toss this out and see what everyone else has for ideas. Anybody feel like sharing? It would be much appreciated.... Happy March! Jodie
