It's all metaballs. I made a normal (positive) metaball, and sized it/angled it to make a rough representation of the head, then enlarged it slightly, and started placing negative metaballs to start cutting it up. Yeah, pressing shift plus the create metaball icon should give you a negative one. They are tricky to place at first. It takes VERY little movement to get a large pos/neg reaction. AS
