I can only speak for myself. I rarely use Bridge, since, like you, I noticed a severe slowdown, and it doesn't really help me much, anyway. Yes, it DOES run in the background, but it takes an inordinate amount of resource power that I could better use when running very large files... upwards of 6 gig.
Anything that's not necessary, should be shut down... this is a given, when you deal with system intensive graphics.. some things may be convenient, but would it be MORE convenient to finish sooner?
As far as problems?... the only one I've run into, was slowing the sys. One thing you CAN do, if you're running XP, is to set the priorities for which gets higher priority... if they're BOTH set to normal, then CPU usage will have to divide it's "Attention" between them, since Bridge makes periodic calls, and uses more than a few threads, even when minimised.
