To answer question 1): Yes, in Poser 5 and 6 the transparency, transparency edge and transparency falloff are all animatable. Just click on that loop icon in front of the numerical value and you can switch between non-animated and animated. Almost all nodes and node values are animatable. The only exception are the parameters that would require a fundamental changes that do not have "in-between" values, for example you cannot animate the file name of the image in an image node, or the function type in a math node. But any parameter that has a smooth scale can be animated.
