Subject: P6 Multi Runtimes>problems!!!

FutureFantasyDesign ( ) posted Wed, 15 March 2006 at 8:36 AM · edited Mon, 29 July 2024 at 1:26 PM

I asked this once before and got a great guy who offered to help me! But I cannot find that original post so I am back. Here's what has happened. I did seperate folders for V3 A3 M3 and Hair, Xtras. When I set up the folder that holds all of these individual runtimes on my F drive(*I load the folders I need as I need them and delete the ones I dont use all the time Like M3, etc). P6 wants to redirect to the P6 Folder on my C drive. Not use the runtimes set up in the Folder on the F drive! Part of the items load, and lots won't! Then you get the endless search and default out of P6 and have to close the program for stalling. I did this so I answer any obvious Q's about how it is being done>Example> I open the V3 Daz Exe, collect the runtime insert it in the "Runtime" folder set up for V3 that folder has the following sub folders in it>libraries, geometries, and textures. I add any related VG3 into that folder by extracting any V3 runtimes and adding to it. So I have one large V3...(*and M3, A3...etc) folder. But in P6 it only picks out selective items!!! So what did I do wrong this time?> Please give me a hand, I thought I had it down, but apparently I goofed somewhere! Some of the things that don't load are skins/Character maps etc. But the main figure and half the items do load just fine. I have over 400 frre and purchased items so loading it all in P6 is not even ann option! Is it possible P6 is corrupt? I unistalled and reinstalled clean. I am at a loss. Many ThanX for your continuing patience. CrimsonMoon

Why are you deleting these folders in P6? The number of Runtimes doesn't influence the loading time. Drive F? Is it an external Drive? Then make sure it is connected when Poser starts, otherwise Poser will stay on Poser 6 and Downloads and never remember the other runtimes.

Just to check...do you install the DAZ exe files to the main P6 runtime itself or to a temp folder and then move it to your separate runtime location? If not directing to a temp folder you might have missed moving certain things over. For Daz figures, just make sure all the files are in one spot. As long as you keep your folder set up as such: Vicky-->Runtime-->Libraries/Geometries/Textures things should work just fine. I have all of mine set up this way and no longer have to worry about Poser not finding the files needed. Also, you have all the latest updates and service packs installed for P6? Another thing to consider, if it's things like INJ morphs and texture mats that are having issues....you might need to check the file path, most certainly on free items. Every now and then someone can forget to fix a file path to a texture or something along those lines and can give you problems when trying to use them.

I download everything first into an empty folder, then I transfer them to the proper character such as V3. In that folder there is a main folder called Runtime, in that there is 3 sub-folders>libraries, Geometries and textures. after i have inserted the runtime into the 'V3' folder, it says there is a folder named runtime, just like when you install into P6 normally. You say "Yes to All" and then when the runtime is loaded and I have finished with all the runtimes I needed to download, I cut and paste the new runtime into the Folder on my F drive (*drive which is the 2nd HD). I have a main folder set up there that is all my runtimes by category. But when you forst start it out I had a LOT of files to unzip and load. So not everything got loaded all at the same time. The Main Figures did tho (*V3 M3 A3) the Bases went into the runtime folders first. The thought on file paths could be part of the issue, I always thought I had checked to make sure the path was direct. But just in case is there a way to make sure? After the fact? One question tho that is a mystery>>>Sometimes when you download the zip to the folder there are several extra files that are sometimes out of the runtime. I do NOT mean the read mes, I mean things that resemble CR2's and such. How do I insert those into the NEW runtime folder? Is that possibly the problem? Do I need to insert those into the Libraries by hand??? Or leave them sit where they fall? Make sense? I hope so. Also all of my Updates are current and I am using a registered copy, not "Crack" Someone asked me that. I bought mine. I'm a good girl! LOL!!! BTW! THANX to everyone of you that responded! I am still learning and I know to someone experienced I might not sound too swift....(*LOL!!!) but I do appreciate the help. Ariana>aka CrimsonMoon

There are a few little programs floating about that can take a look at Poser files and fix file paths. Hopefully someone who knows them will pop in. Might check in the freebie section, I think a couple are floating around there. It's nothing you've done, just something that was missed before zipping up for download. As for the files that you download that are not set up in the zip, usually the readme will give you instructions on what folders to create where and then place the files in those new folders. (kind of a nick-picky thing with me...they can take the time to write the instructions but not make the folders? Just seems a little odd to me)
