I took a molded plastic back massager and put it into a glass of water then spun it around in an attempt to create a whirlpool effect.... Since I was doing it myself the whirlpool wasn't spinning too fast by the time I got to the camera to take the shot.... It was a quick inspiration and I had no tripod with me so the shot was handheld....
