Don't worry about the cost...unless it threatens the roof over your head ;) It took a lot of agonising to decide on my next camera...finally got a D2X and haven't regret it. Even though it was a lot of money, it was worth it once I had it in my hands and I now use my D70 as a backup. As for Macro...Canon or Nikon...well being a Nikon man, I would have to say....look at the third party options. Tokina, Sigma and Tamron make fantastic Macro lenses. If you are shooting flowers etc, then something in the 100mm range is a safe bet...and gives you extra working distance for when you want to chase some bugs. Me, well I have ended up with two lenses...a Nikon 60mm Micro and a Sigma 150mm Macro. Both great lenses and the Sigma is also a great medium and fast (F2.8) telephoto. My recommendation is buy the best you can afford and save money in the long run. Whatever you get; enjoy and going with either Nikon or Canon, you won't go far wrong. Cheers
