Subject: OT - Looking for a host

O.K. I know this isn't really about poser, but can anyone out there reccomend a good host for my domain? I have decided that I would like to switch my host, as I have been having problems with my current one. They have a great service, but for the past year there has only been problem after problem causing my site not to be accessible or the email not to work. If I were getting the service for free, that would be one thing, but when I am paying for something I expect my money's worth. What I am looking for is something that provides at least 50 megs, and has unlimited bandwidth. (That is what I have now.) Preferable would be a site that allows nudity, so I don't have to refrain from posting my nude studies in the gallery, although this is not a must. Anyone have a good experience with a host? I would rather use someone who I know has pleased others than just jump out on a limb. Thanks, Ang

well I use Compuserve & Aol (you can get both for $30 monthly, this includes web service and unlimited everything) Compuserve gives you 20mb per screen name (total 100mb)and you can get a nifty offline webpage builder for free (trellix) compuserve alone costs $21.95 unlimited service (there are other payment plans but I don't know them) and their TOS specifies no pronography, derogatory racial statements & images, and nothing that promotes illegal activities. Further they also state in their TOS that anything uploaded still belongs to you. I don't believe they classify nude as porn as they have quite an extensive collection of nakie photos. Also before you sign-up (if you sign-up) they have a rebate program that you can get $400 off anything that you buy at curcuit city (that's how I got my 2nd computer) check the link, if your interested. BTW for those who haven't tried one, Emachines are very good puters. I bought my first one (with rebate) later when I needed another one (first puter died a horrible death) I got a compac presario, that thing sucked so badly that I took it back the next day, and got another Emachine and haven't had problem one outside of needing new speakers, a bigger hard drive & more memory. (but then what computer doesn't?) After getting Compuserve you can get Aol for $8 a month extra and Aol gives you a max of 12mb per screen name (84mb total) and loading with their FTP is very simple. So for $30 monthly I got $400 off a computer, 184mb web space, 24 hours a day web service, and best of all for me - NO OUTLOOK EXPRESS. Drawback would be your domain name, but I beleive there are services for short domain name redirects. This goes outside my expertise. Boy I yammered on, but then I am happy with my service, and I have been with CS & AOL for 2+ years now.

I can recommend my hosting service, Globalnet. I've never had a bit of trouble with them. In fact, they actually upgraded my package without additional cost to me as an apology for a billing glitch. They offer personal, commercial and reseller accounts. The smallest package they offer is 75 Megs for $19.95 a month and right now they're running a special - with valid credit card you get the first month free and no setup fee. Kate

Going to check them out now, Kate. Thanks for the advice, Shadow, but I do not plan on switching that. Besides, I know some people are happy with AOL, and that's fine. But I used AOL back in '93, and hated the service, but it was all there was. Used it one other time out of necessity when I moved and still hated it, so I pretty much shy away from it. But I am glad you are happy, and thanks taking the time to answer this.

www.communitech.net works great for me. You get 350Mb per month, nudity okay so long as it's not a porn site, 25Gb bandwidth per month for as low as $23 per month. Oh, also subdomains, 100 POP 3 email accounts, scripting, and web email access as well as downloaded email. I'm really happy with them myself.

I would highly recommend my latest host http://www.phpwebhosting.com/ I have been with them since January, when I tired of the free hosting problems, and they are great. I get my mail, my site is always up, can use all the latest tools. 125 meg of space (more if needed), unmetered bandwidth up to 10 Gig (no-one gives unlimited anymore) and a bunch of other stuff. 9.95 a month. Rules are no PORN, MP3 or warez sites. Those rules are for bandwidth considerations. On the no Porn I wrote and asked what exactly they meant. They told me artistic nudes were okay. They told me that as long as the site doesn't go over 10Gig a month in transfer you were okay. Check them out, they are great hosts.

Actually I'm not talking up the AOL half (my husband is the one who wants AOL, he's a chat room junkie, I still use it cuz I like the screen name) Although AOL & Compuserve use the same phone numbers they are alot different CS connects at a better speed and is a little more adult oriented, AOL is for more family use, although I like the AOL FTP transfer better. But ever since I bought the full version of Trellix it doesn't matter. (compuserve has a free version of trellix that only works with CS, and there is an outside program to access your FTP space, but I haven't used it much yet) Here's a link to my unfinished web site, (the morphs are all that is there for now, I need to change them some though because I discovered that a few will deform mike's teeth) and so far it's all on AOL space, I really need to finish this site, but I may wait and see what's happening with Vic2 first. Cresent: I heard that Communitech.net's TOS states that they own anything the you upload to their space (I heard it in this forum or 3dcommune's, don't know for sure though) just in case you should check your TOS.

Nope. I just checked. Communitech owns all rights to the hosting software, i.e. email scripts, compilers, etc. Quote: As between Client and Communitech.net, Client Content shall remain the sole and exclusive property of the Client including, without limitation, all copyrights, trademarks, patents, trade secrets, and any other proprietary rights. ... It does say that Communitech is given a royalty-free right to the material, but only so that Communitech can legally host the files on their servers. Being paranoid, I do check these things out. Thanks for the heads up, even though it's a false warning. I appreciate you trying to look out for me.

cool, just repeating a warning I read elsewhere.
