In psychology, those terms were used to approximate a person's mental age. Imbecile- A person of moderate to severe mental retardation having a mental age of from three to seven years and generally being capable of some degree of communication and performance of simple tasks under supervision. Idiot- A person of profound mental retardation having a mental age below three years and generally being unable to learn connected speech or guard against common dangers. What's interesting are the ads on the side of the page when I searched for these terms. When I got the result for "idiot", the side ads showed me movies from Amazon.com... including a Pauly Shore movie and some Ernest movies. --John
