In addition to what Claymor said, if you successfully import an obj, you should see the menu letters (A, M, E) as well as the rest on the screen (even if the object is not in view. Try clicking on the "A" to get an idea of the coordinates of the object. Don't click on the screen or another object or you will have to locate the object as Claymor mentioned. Another thing you can do if you import and can't see the object is to try one of the other views, like front, right, top, etc. Without deselecting the import, select one of these other views and then click on the "+" or "-" selectors. This should center to object, giving you a chance to at least see it. Hope this helps some.
