I'm guessing then that they used the grouping tool on these figures. In that case it's reading custom geometry that's embedded inside the CR2. With a text editor, search your CR2 for sections that start out with the line 'customGeom'. Under that you'll see a bunch of info that looks just like an .obj file. Look for unlabled 'g' lines here and delete them.
