I had Firebird and Firefox both installed and workable at the same time, but I don't know about two versions of `fox.

I can't say I've ever had trouble updating Firefox -- you hardly notice the difference. And if you're going from IE, you can import all the IE favorites.

If you do update Firefox, update Java as well (delete the old one first).
