Olympus Cmedia C-720UZ, no clever bits. Postwork consisted of cropping it a bit, nothing else.

Scuse me.

Don't mean to bicker but ... I originally submitted this yesterday lunchtime UK-time (ridiculous o'clock DBGraffix time) but it appears to have been excluded from the challenge? Even though a submission later in the day has been added. Have i done something wrong (again) and if so, what?

cynlee ( ) posted Mon, 01 May 2006 at 9:41 AM

looks like a fine example of a natural fractal.. submitted on time.. sure your new thread will catch the mod's attention & this was just overlooked.. or it could be because the thumb size  is not correct.. i do understand your frustration.. but it can still be added with the right sz thumb (100X80).. dB has been a bit shorthanded adding challenges of late.. be patient  😉

thanks cynlee - much appreciated that you not only spotted what I'd done wrong but took the trouble to tell me - resized thumb attached

you're welcome willothewhisp 😄 ..old habits are hard to break.. best of luck to you in the next challenge, they can be fun to do

thanks - would have been nicer if it hadn't been disallowed. Or if i'd even found out why. never mind.

danob ( ) posted Mon, 01 May 2006 at 3:50 PM

I am not sure it was disallowed other than it may cause problems for Doug to have seen it a the fairly late time.. I dont have a way to accept these images myself and Doug has been away yesterday.. These challenges are fun so I understand the frustration after this being one of your first efforts.. It may not be too late but please bear in mind that the  entries have to be voted on to find a winner and we cant leave it until midnight in view of the time zones etc

it wasn't midnight dear. It was 5:30 am US time, 11:30 am here. And, as I said, he added someone else's submissions quite some time later in the day.  Check the date/time stamps. He has been online today at intervals, but hasn't deigned to acknowledge either my submission or my requests for information. The traffic on the forum isn't that busy.

The frustration stems not from a failed submission, but from the cavalier attitude of certaain denizens of the forum. I don't think i'll be staying - I'm choosy hwo i mix with. There are peoiple i'll be happy to "see" if they drop by my gallery - they'll know who they are.

TwoPynts ( ) posted Mon, 01 May 2006 at 4:31 PM

Doug has missed my submissions once or twice in the past as well. An email to him got him to fix it, he just hadn't seen it. I think with the new format it is a tad confusing at times. I don't want to think that it is anything intentional, I'm not sure why it would be. "Cavalier" might not be quite accurate -- swamped with work might fit the bill a bit more. Anyway, I hope you don't let it get to you. Hopefully it was just an honest mistake.

mistake? Who can tell, and who by now cares? He has been around enough times since i first submitted., and has ignored both public and private messages. However busy he is, a couple of moments to type "oops - i'll get back to you" is hardly onerous.

In any case nobody yet has anbswered my question regarding end dates; I mainly asked in order to avoid wating any more time.

I'm gone.

cynlee ( ) posted Mon, 01 May 2006 at 7:05 PM

dear willothewisp.. dB will have been at work all day today, probably still not back.. i use to be the mod here with dB, resigned for personal reasons, a month ago..

& can tell you the begin date is after midnight the 1st of the month to midnight the last day of the month RR time..  as long as they are posted within the time frame they can be entered by the mod afterwards who are the only ones who have access to the backroom..  he has been known to be absent minded (no offense meant)..

if the thumb is not the correct size he may have skipped it & meant to have you post the correct sz... & well.. who knows but him..

i feel somewhat responsible as i was the one who kept up with the links & made sure things got done here

btw.. there is no voting on challenges & as far as i know none of the rules have changed.. it is suppose to be for fun..

please don't let this deter you from participating in the future while things are in transition here

Hi.
Well one thing to remember is, that I am a regular member too.
I don't monitor the site 24 hrs a day. People could get a few submmissions in late, and I will still add them.
The challenge is not a life or death  million dollar prize deal.
Just a fun challenge to get people out honing their photo skills.
The new forum is also a bit confusing for posts the way I have been used to for the last 4 yrs.
What does help if everyone would put down  Monthly Challenge April, or Monthly Challenge Natural Fractal...or whatever theme.
If they had the right size thumbnaill, and one image per thread.
Not saying you did it wrong though.

Anyways...I do have a other things to do  in my home and as the weather gets nicer, the grass grows, and things need to be done outside.
I only recieved the one email from you today.
Kort is good and reminds me if I missed his.
Near the end of month we have to choose a GOM, work on themes, change html things...the list goes on.
So please don't take it as if I am ignoring or not allowing it.
Be assured if there is an issue with it I would let you know.

Now after my dinner I will add this entry.
See. I just got home from work, and need to tend a few things first.

Thanks all for the patience.

but not mine apparently even though it was in on time and you've seen lots of reminders.

Quote - The challenge is not a life or death  million dollar prize deal.

Never for a moment suggested it was. but common courtesy costs nothing

Quote - Just a fun challenge to get people out honing their photo skills.

pointless if the effort is then wasted.

Quote - The new forum is also a bit confusing for posts the way I have been used to for the last 4 yrs.

Funny, that. I'd just got the hang of the look and feel when it all changed. I may not be wild about the new format, but it has never confused me. I do, however, find all the "broken" bits more than a little irritating as time goes by. Minor hiccups are one thing, but releasing greatwadges of untested code is another.

Quote - What does help if everyone would put down  Monthly Challenge April, or Monthly Challenge Natural Fractal...or whatever theme.

One set of instructions states to use the subject 'Monthly Challenge', the other specifies nothing at all.

Quote - If they had the right size thumbnaill,

As Cynlee very kindly spotted for me after I'd asked a number of people if they could see whether I had made a mistake. I'd rectified that before you posted this response, so i assume you hadn't noticed.

and one image per thread.

Yes, I did that - unless you count amending the thumbnail after someone else pointed out a minor error.  I counted them. Two submissions, two threads. Not three submissions munged into one montage, or anything clever.

Not saying you did it wrong though.

Good. See above.

Quote - Anyways...I do have a other things to do  in my home

As do we all. Which is why your lack of reaction to both email and forum postings has been particularly galling. My efforts might well not be the best of the bunch, but that isn't supposed to be the point. Good to see that you had time to post your own stuff to the forum in among all the hectic activity - it's so easy to forget when running round after everyone else.

I only recieved the one email from you today.

And ignored messages in 3 threads, including posting from directly beneath one of them.

Quote - Kort is good and reminds me if I missed his.

I was good - I assumed I'd got something wrong and asked what it was. You ignored me and most of the rest of the clique kept telling me to look at the where the information isn't.

Quote - Near the end of month we have to choose a GOM, work on themes, change html things...the list goes on.

Of course it does. And this is why I no longer volunteer for such activities unless as one of a reliable team, however nicely people ask me (and it does happen, believe it or not). I do test my own HTML before I release it, though.

Quote - So please don't take it as if I am ignoring or not allowing it.
Be assured if there is an issue with it I would let you know.

So if not wrong, and not ignored, then what?

Quote - Thanks all for the patience.

Enjoy your dinner. It is now stupid o'clock here in the UK and I have to get up in about 5 hours time.

Cindy is right. Daytimes she would have got the challenge images, while I was at work...and yes sometimes I am a bit absent minded, or I do not see it. Besides the challenge I  do the html for certain pages, tend to the coord forum, mod forum, galleries, and the new PHP conversion forum. We set up the new format and test it.
Reportiung bugs and whatnot.
Just because i overlooked your posting, does not mean it will not be in.
It could even be a day late, and with an email or IM, I would still add it.
Since the change over i have missed probably about 8 challlenge images, but get friendly messages asking me if I overlooked them.
Now as for the tutorial, I got around to changing the images and updating it from the old format.
The thumbnail size has been the same for ages.
Looking at other challlenge threads, should give everyone a perfect example of how the  format is done.
Anyways...you can now start to take images for the new challenge.

Failing that, just an "Oops, sorry" would have done, but I've asked a few times and in a few places what I did wrong and fom the deafening silence can only conclude that the answer is "exist". Other messages have been answered and an image added well after I left mine - after i asked about it, even. I don't like snobbery and elitism.

Well my friend, all your enquiries were done while I was at work today, and I noted that a few members in fact helped out with info.

Your challenge image on Saturday was uploaded to the page a few hours later...Apr 29. Pretty good service if you ask me.
