    Thanks for the encouragement!   It was really a very straight forward problem.  SCALE!
  I made the wrong assumption that Vue would import at the same dimensions as the original object.  My bad!  When I scaled things up everything is just hunky dorry.   I just wished all the problem of the day were so simple....
