Subject: Nothing really new or different for V3 - Comments welcomed.

PXP ( ) posted Thu, 04 May 2006 at 7:27 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 3:11 AM

I would like to know what other people think about this comment, but over the last few weeks I have noticed, what seems to me, to be a gradual decline in new exciting V3 characters and Textures Props and clothing.

What is appearing are products that are imitating some of the former great products that have been on sale here or, we are seeing repetitions of the same ole thing.
Some of these new products are poorly produced and are trully weak and uninspiring.
In my opinion, and that's what it is, these items are cheapening the look of the store. It's like were going back to the early days of Poser.

I think that a certain 'high quality' is vanishing here and is being replaced by inferior products.
Of course when one of our great artists comes up with a new item then the store is brought alive again, but there was a time when we used to loads of exciting new things every day.

I wonder what your thoughts are on this - do you agree with me?

Well, since I have no Poser due to viruses I am entertaining myself in the forums while virus scans run on 4 PC's - all infected. I would be thrilled right now to render a boring V3, but unfortunately, some mental midget wrote a virus that wrecked my Pcs. I know what you mean, though. After a while. V3 gets old and textures do seem similar. I think that's why a lot of people like Miki. She's new.

maybe they're retooling their merchandising efforts for V4. the poser marketplace shoppers have an infinite capacity to buy new products, but some buyer fatigue may develop if new figures aren't introduced on a regular basis.

What kind of stuff are you looking for?

PXP ( ) posted Thu, 04 May 2006 at 9:21 PM

Ghostofmacbeth - Good question? What kind of stuff am I looking for?
Well I have made several requests for a trully photorealistic female body builder texture with vascularity but noone wants to do it. Why not? I dont know.

Perhaps what we need is a new V3. Every one hopes that V4 will answer their wishes but who knows.

Anton says that he going to produce a female VenusMaximus. I asked him not to forget to include female muscularity when he does and he said that when he starts to build her he will remember my request. We shall see.

Not enough of a market to make the effort worthwhile, I would bet.  When all is said and done, the majority of buyers want pretty models with an average feminine appeal rather than female body builders.

I took a bit of a risk with my female robots but they're reasonably popular.

Thanks for telling me that. Pitty though, I would pay for a realistic fbb texture and I wager that there are more Poser/female body builder lovers out there than you suspect and they would all come out and buy it if a realistic FBB Poser texture were on sale.

Pretty much what SamTherapy said about that one request but there have been a number of posts at DAZ using the new bodybuilder set on V3 pretty successfully. And I doubt there will be a Venus now. Anton has left the building. Any other ideas? I am curious :)

RGUS ( ) posted Thu, 04 May 2006 at 10:10 PM

If you want cheaper product... then unfortunately you are going to get cheaply and quickly made product. Seems to me in this industry, everyone wants the best, but is not prepared to pay for it. I sometimes buy a V3 product for the body or face morph and wrap her in someones elses textures. I've even been know to mix and match clothing figures to stimulate something different. Nothing needs to be as it seems. There seems to me to be enough product here and at other sites already to keep the imagination roaming for years... so much to do and so little time....

arcady ( ) posted Fri, 05 May 2006 at 2:10 AM

I guess I'm not seeing any of this. I see a lot of good and cheap items out there, and even good and free items. They are not all v3 - and this is a good thing. There is a lot of Aiko, miki, David, Hiro, Terai Yuki, scenery and props, and other items in the mix as well. Even toon characters. Variety by definitions means the modelers are doing X instead of Y - so unless you add a lot of new modelers (Hello Hexagon - but it will take a while for those who will learn to learn), the flood for Y will go down. And it is frankly, about time.

I wonder if vendoers are waiting on Daz to stop sucking up all the money!

Maybe once Daz finishes it's round after round of specials, suprises, deals etc. we'll see more decent products come on the market.

You're right though. There has been a serios dearth of interesting, quality products. I've wondered what the deal was myself.

Phantast ( ) posted Sat, 06 May 2006 at 3:14 AM

V4 is not the answer. If anyone thinks I'm going to repurchase an entire wardrobe for a new figure they can think again.

Dave-So ( ) posted Sat, 06 May 2006 at 4:30 PM

well, they better quit waiting cause it aint going to stop any time soon

I just wish it was easier for me to understand how to make clothing. I think in the end, that is the problem.

I even got a book that someone suggested, I forget the name right now, something like Poser Character Creation or something similar. It has a blue cover. Anyhow, that thing is written in Pig Latin as far as I'm concerned.

So, here I am hoping and looking for some really detailed walk-throughs of character creation from the advanced topics that I need to know in 3DS Max, to how to prep it to take over to Poser, and all the steps in Poser that I need to do. So many tutorials that I've found assume way too much that the person trying to make clothing for the first time is an expert in most of the other steps needed to get clothing into Poser other than the steps they are covering.

And then when I try to figure out what I don't understand, it's in tutorials unrelated to getting clothing in game, and I can't connect the dots if you will.

Well, sorry if this sounds like a rant, just a possible suggestion to clothing creators out there. Perhaps instead of sinking untold hours into modeling, you could break out the PRINT SCREEN button while making something simple, put those screenies with some text into a .PDF and sell it.

That way I might get motivated enough again to attempt clothing creation to make hundreds of crappy pieces before my skill gets good enough to make some really good stuff.

Look for Dr. Geep's tutorials...

decadre ( ) posted Sat, 06 May 2006 at 11:58 PM

WOW, thanks. Never saw those before.

Anyone else have some favorite tutorials? Perhaps I can find some others that I haven't been able to come across yet.

Photopium ( ) posted Sun, 07 May 2006 at 2:20 PM

I can assure you that the market for new and exciting products is definately there.  I think the reason that fresh stuff is so few and far in between these days is because people keep making the same thing.

I remember seeing a few days a go a sphagetti strap top and a miniskirt for V3...and I just remembered thinking "Stop the madness!"

I've got 20 of these things already, and this new item didn't even come close to matching the quality of the best of them!  Why did someone bother?  I guess you'll catch the few people with some money that don't feel like doing an extended search for the best sph. top/mini combo.

The same can be said for up-do hair models.  And for V3 character packs.  And for texture packs.  And lighting packs.  On and on.

Phantast ( ) posted Mon, 08 May 2006 at 6:12 AM

I'm seeing a lot of texture packs and character packs coming out at the moment, most of which look so tedious that one wonders why anyone bothered. I guess there is a lot of trying to cash in.

There seem to be more new outfits for Miki and Aiko than V3.

But I agree also with William that for most basic clothing types the market is pretty well saturated. Still, if I see a striking new style I may well get it.

Andi3d ( ) posted Mon, 08 May 2006 at 6:23 AM

hmm....cant say too much about this here, as it's a product, and its by me....but you want something differant, unique, original?.....  not EVERYONE makes the sameold, same old, http://market.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2646877

but I'll readily agree, there's so litle variation about the MP these days, it does seem to be like looking at the same thing 100 times...

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Mon, 08 May 2006 at 6:49 AM

One reason is also that people tend to go for "what sells", and apparently V3 characters with collagene lips and tiny noses sell. As does miniskirts and spaghetti strap tops, or they wouldn't exist in the numbers they do. Lacey lingerie - we're up to here in that, but still more is produced.

People are always requesting Everyday Clothes, but my impression is that when someone finally caters to that supposed crowd and creates it, no one buys it anyway. It's like people love to complain about the NVIATWAS yet it's all they want to make when the day is done. Beats me why...

I'm not much of a clothes maker but I've done some out of the ordinary characters in my time, and the sales have been laughable although they're honestly nice characters...

Personally, I'm waiting for a V6 or V8 with better mileage.

Phantast ( ) posted Mon, 08 May 2006 at 10:03 AM

Actually, I think there's a pretty good lot of everyday clothes as well. Kudos to Andi for something that really is interestingly different.

Actually, I wish I still looked good enough to be a NVITWS!!!!!, LOL!
